Yay! It’s squirrel appreciation day

Yes, January 21st is squirrel appreciation day!

Christy Hargrove of Asheville, North Carolina created the holiday in 2001.

Tree squirrels do not hibernate during the winter and might have trouble finding food this time of year.

Christy originally suggested feeding your local squirrels as a way to celebrate this holiday.

Here at nutsaboutsquirrels, we can happily report that all of the regulars are still showing up every day or two for a visit.

In fact Piggy greeted us on the window sill of our bedroom window just like he used to when he was a baby. (Probably because we slept in and were slow to fetch him his breakfast.)

Let’s hope they all continue to stay safe so we can enjoy the coming spring and summer together again.
